Children participating in Martial Arts at this age still enjoy the spotlight somewhat so we tend to look at developing the spirit of healthy competition.
They are bright, but they typically have a hard time concentrating during distractions or if they get bored, so for children to develop at this age, we now introduce a wider variety of skills that are more challenging and relevant.
We award skill tags on the belt in this program which the children really respond well to. We are using the rotating 8 skills pictured to encourage much needed physical challenges and emotional control. Children are able to explore the limits of their comfort zones and help them to explore pushing their own boundaries. All while challenging our kids and ensuring they have loads of fun.
Because this program is designed it specifically to encourage self-discipline and self-control whilst boosting confidence. It has the by-product of creating an environment that provides opportunity for success checked with management of defeat with the focus on a variety of other important life skills that we love to teach children.
The graduation system has been modified to enable kids to gain a solid grounding in both the physical and mental aspects of martial arts. The curriculum requirements are similar to the senior karate program, but all of the more difficult or less appropriate techniques have been removed.
The progressions are also in smaller steps to keep the kids focused on their goals. As Red Dragon students learn similar skills to the older members they can easily transition into the Youth Karate curriculum once they are both confident and old enough to do so.
