As we get older, we tend to spend more time working in front of screens or driving our children around and missing out on the physical needs that our own bodies require.

This can result in the following:

  • Soreness in lower back and/or hips from sitting

Our Martial Arts classes have helped a number of individuals over the years to resolve some of these issues through regular exercises ranging from strength to cardio and mobility training.

This leaves our members not only with skills to defend themselves and their families, but also to maintain a healthy lifestyle and basic level of fitness.

With a background not only in Martial Arts, but in a variety of fitness contexts, our highly qualified and experienced instructors have set short and long term goals to keep members on the right track.

So what do we do?

Gōki-Kai is a modern Freestyle Martial Art and incorporates techniques from Karate, Muay Thai, Jujutsu, BJJ and modern unarmed combat systems.

We work the main ranges of unarmed fighting with the strikes and stand-up work of Karate, boxing and Muay Thai, with the grappling & throws of Judo and the takedowns of BJJ.

We work ground defence from freestyle wrestling, Judo and BJJ and work with reality based scenario training regularly. Gōki-Kai is a pure self defence art! Our kata are those of traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu, with an emphasis on practical application in a modern self defence context.

Although Gōki-Kai is mostly based around principles of self defence. We do not discourage our members from competition, in fact our senior instructor has competed in competitions from Bare knuckle Karate to BJJ, Shoot fighting and Judo.

This combined with extensive experience in the security and law enforcement training industry means that there is a good grounding for what works and what doesn’t.

We keep our classes interesting and work on principles with varying distances, situations and contexts to prepare our members for almost anything.
